Elon Musk has threatened to strip NPR of its Twitter handle, @npr, for not tweeting for weeks. This follows Musk labeling NPR as “state-affiliated media,” which led the organization to quit Twitter. Musk’s policy changes since taking over Twitter have disconcerted observers and users, and reassigning Twitter handles risks misleading users at a time critics have highlighted the growing potential for misinformation on the platform. Musk’s argument was that it’s consistent with Twitter policy to reassign dormant accounts.
